Google Dashboard

Posted by Parker on November 8, 2009

Earlier, Google Dashboard, an extension to Google’s log-in page, was added to the site. This page allows users to view data and updates from their Google Apps all in one convenient location. Although this is not a major change to the site, it allows users to increase efficiency in using their Google Apps. Below are some screen shots of Google Dashboard.

On October 29, 2009, Ubuntu 9.10 is scheduled to be released. What does this mean for the technological industry? Well, the numerous improved features since 9.04 will only improve upon the Ubuntu experience, providing faster and more efficient computing. As most of you know, Ubuntu is a free Linux OS, providing many features, such of Open Office, for free. Although many don’t use Ubuntu as a primary OS, it is widely used as a secondary OS to Windows or Mac OS X. From a refined GNOME desktop environment to an improved boot experience, Ubuntu 9.10 is packed with many new features. To learn more, click here.

Below is a video preview of Ubuntu 9.10.

If you are using Windows or Mac OS X as your default OS, then Ubuntu can be installed using either the ‘partition’ or ‘virtualization’ methods. A post explaining how to use VirtualBox to ‘virtualize’ Ubuntu on your computer will be posted soon.

Star Walk: An App for the Star-Gazers

Posted by Parker on September 27, 2009

The editor sends his apologies for not posting anything lately, but he has been preoccupied with other tasks.

Star Walk is a cool app for the iPhone/iPod touch which allows to you explore the stars and beyond. With this app, you use the core location technology in your Apple device to point you in the correct direction in the sky. From this, you can then explore the vast reaches of outer space by rotating the display with you finger, or simply moving you device around. In addition, you can zoom in and out with your fingers to view stars, constellations, and planets in more detail. Also, when you select stars, constellations, or planets, you can click on the information button to view more details about the object, and be directed to the Wikipedia page about it. With integrated search options, the ability to ‘travel back in time’ and the vast information that accompanies every celestial body, Star Walk is the perfect companion for the average star-gazer.
