Windows Live Messanger vs. Yahoo Messanger

Everyone likes to instant message, right?  Well, there are a variety of instant messaging services which allow you to do so.  However, which one is the best.  It really doesn’t matter, because each one can perform basically, but wouldn’t you like to know which one we find the most appealing?

The two most popular instant messaging services are Windows Live and Yahoo.  The two compete for people, but you can instant message someone using one of them on the other.  So, to determine which one was superior, we compared the two in depth.  Below is a comparison of the two.

Windows Live Messenger vs. Yahoo Messenger

Interface

By default, Windows Live Messenger is larger than Yahoo Messenger, but not to large.  Windows Live is more official, and Yahoo is more casual.  Windows Live offers a more appealing look to their system, while Yahoo is a bit clunky and unorganized.  Below are screen shots of the two.  windows-live-yahoo-1Winner: Windows Live

Features

Windows Live offers a break down of contacts into various groups, such as favorites, groups, coworkers, family, and friends.  Yahoo just puts it all into an address book.  Yahoo’s toolbars are more clearly displayed than Windows Live’s, but Windows Live’s are under a toolbar button, to maximize available space.  In addition, Windows Live makes it simpler and easier than Yahoo to add contacts.  Finally, Windows Live offers more personal status icons than Yahoo.

Winner: Windows Live

Graphics and Conviences

Windows Live displays some advertisements, but also current events and news.  Yahoo, however, strictly displays advertisements.  Although Yahoo has a search on the bottom, Windows Live has organized their searches into various categories, represented by cool icons.  Yahoo does have better start-up animation, but is slower in starting up than Windows Live.

Winner: Windows Live

Conclusion

Overall, Windows Live is the better instant messaging service in our opinion.  Deciding which to use is really up to your personal preference, but we strongly support Windows Live.
